Economic Hardship: Work Hard, Be Patient  -Tinubu Tells Nigerians

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has in a phrase told Nigerians that there are no free beer parlour any longer.


He said the people must work hard, focusing on agriculture and should be patient with the government.


Tinubu said his administration was in the process of retooling and rebuilding the country’s economy and should be given the time to achieve this.


Tinubu made this known when the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, paid him a visit in Abuja. on Friday


“People say we’re hungry; yes, I understand that. We don’t want to keep the people hungry and angry, but we say be patient— we must work hard. There is no free beer parlour anymore. We’ll retool and rebuild Nigeria’s economy”.


The President is saying this at a time Nigerians are currently struggling with economic hardship provoked by the twin policies of fuel subsidy removal and Naira floating.


Recall that the removal of the petrol subsidy on the president’s first day in office had tripled the pump price of fuel.


As of Saturday , filling stations in various states, now sell petrol between N950 to N1,300 per liter.


Additionally, the move to unify exchange rate windows, also a day one policy, pushed the naira to an all-time low, trading at above N1,500 to a dollar from N600 to one dollar he met on May 29, 2023.


Also, as of Saturday, September 21st, 2024, the Naira to Dollar stands at N1,544 in the official market.


"I didn't come to exploit or enrich myself; I'm here to work”.


Senator Nnamani, expressed full support for President Tinubu’s administration and its efforts to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges.


The President outlined that since elected, his administration has been majorly focused on addressing these challenges Nigerians and the country has been facing, including improving infrastructure, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, exploring alternative energy sources and providing energy and security.


The President of the federal republic of Nigeria further urged continuous unity and collaboration in order to consciously achieve national development goals, citing the importance of inclusiveness and financial structure in driving progress.


“We have come a long way, and I promise we will continue to do our best”, the President stated.
